Children's Privacy Notice

A Notice for Parents about Myzo

The Myzo Kids mobile application is designed to help children with ADHD and other learning differences complete homework, run focus timers, log grades, earn rewards, and study with flashcards. Because Myzo Kids collects a small amount of personal information from your child, we are required by the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act ("COPPA") to give you this notice before we collect anything.

Please read this notice carefully. If you consent, tap "I have read this notice and I consent" at the bottom. If you do not consent, do not add your child to your Family Account.

You can always contact us at legal@getmyzo.com with questions.

1. What information Myzo collects from your child

During your child's use of the Myzo Kids app, Myzo collects a deliberately minimal set of information about your child. Specifically, we collect:

  • Your child's first name only. We do not ask for your child's last name.
  • A bucketed age range (for example, "8–10 years old") and a flag indicating whether your child is under 13. We do not ask for your child's date of birth.
  • Your child's grade level in school (for example, "3rd grade"), so we can present age-appropriate content.
  • The avatar and color theme your child chooses from a fixed catalog of vector illustrations we provide. Myzo does not accept photographs, videos, or voice recordings of your child.
  • Accessibility preferences your child sets, such as font size and color theme.
  • Homework assignments and study activity. As you or your child enters homework tasks, focus-timer sessions, breaks, scores, rewards, achievements, and flashcards into the app, Myzo stores that information as part of your child's profile within your Family Account.
  • Device information for the device you pair to your child. This includes an opaque device fingerprint (not a photo of the phone, not a phone number, and not your child's advertising ID), the platform (iOS or Android), a device model label, a hashed version of the PIN your child chooses to sign in, and — if you enable biometric sign-in — the type of biometric (Face ID or Touch ID) that is enrolled on the device. Myzo also records a session token so your child can stay signed in, and a small security log of sign-in events including the timestamp, platform, and IP address of each sign-in event.

Myzo does not collect:

  • Your child's last name;
  • Your child's email address;
  • Your child's telephone number;
  • Any photograph, video, or voice recording of your child;
  • Your child's precise or approximate geolocation;
  • Your child's contacts, calendar entries, or health information;
  • Your child's advertising identifier (IDFA on iOS or Google Advertising ID on Android).

Myzo does not permit any advertising to be shown to your child inside the Myzo Kids app, and Myzo does not sell or share your child's personal information with anyone for any advertising or marketing purpose.

2. How Myzo uses the information collected from your child

Myzo uses the information described in Section 1 only to operate the Services for your Family Account. Specifically:

  • To let your child sign in to the Myzo Kids app securely on the device you have paired to their profile;
  • To display your child's profile (first name, avatar, achievements, and points balance) in the Myzo Kids app;
  • To present the homework tasks, focus timers, breaks, flashcards, and rewards that you or your child has set up for their studies;
  • To sync your child's data between the Myzo Kids app on your child's device and the Myzo Parents app on your device, so you can see your child's progress in real time;
  • To send push notifications your child has opted into (for example, session-end chimes and, if you enable it, a bedtime reminder);
  • To maintain a small security log so we can detect misuse of your child's device (for example, repeated wrong-PIN attempts); and
  • To improve the Myzo Kids app through anonymous usage analytics that never include your child's name or any information that could identify your child. See Section 4 of the Myzo Privacy Policy for details.

We do not use your child's personal information for any purpose other than those listed above.

3. Whether Myzo shares your child's information with anyone else

Myzo shares your child's information only with a limited set of service providers that help us operate the Services, and only for the purposes we specify:

  • Supabase hosts our database and delivers push notifications infrastructure;
  • Expo delivers push notifications to your child's device;
  • Apple (on iOS devices) and Google (on Android devices) deliver push notifications to your child's device through their operating-system push-notification services;
  • PostHog receives strictly anonymous usage-analytics events. PostHog never receives your child's name, age, family identifier, or any other information that could identify your child.

Each of these service providers has agreed by contract to protect your child's information and to use it only for the purposes we specify. A current list of Myzo's service providers is published at getmyzo.com/subprocessors.

Myzo does not disclose your child's personal information to anyone for advertising, marketing, or promotional purposes. Myzo does not sell your child's personal information.

4. Your rights as the parent or legal guardian

As the parent or legal guardian of your child, you have the following rights at any time:

  • Review. You can review the personal information Myzo has collected about your child. Most of this information is directly viewable within the Myzo Parents app; for anything else, contact us at legal@getmyzo.com and we will respond within thirty (30) days.
  • Correct or delete. You can correct or delete your child's personal information at any time, either directly within the Myzo Parents app or by contacting us at the address above.
  • Stop further collection. You can direct Myzo to stop any further collection of your child's personal information at any time. You may do this by removing your child from your Family Account inside the Myzo Parents app under Settings → Children → Remove Child, or by contacting us at legal@getmyzo.com.
  • Withdraw consent entirely. You can withdraw your COPPA parental consent at any time. When you do, we will close your child's profile and delete the personal information we have collected about your child, as described in Section 9 of the Myzo Privacy Policy.

We will not condition your child's participation in any activity on your providing more personal information about your child than is reasonably necessary to participate in that activity.

5. How Myzo obtains your verifiable parental consent

Before collecting personal information from a child under 13, Myzo obtains verifiable parental consent from that child's parent or legal guardian.

Myzo obtains this consent through the parent's use of a credit card, debit card, or other online payment method in connection with the subscription trial or paid subscription for the Family Account. Because your payment processor (Apple, Google, or Paddle, depending on how you subscribe) delivers a notification of each transaction to the primary account holder for the payment method, this method provides a reasonable assurance that the person consenting is in fact an adult parent or guardian who controls the payment method associated with the Family Account. This method is expressly recognized by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission's COPPA Rule as an acceptable method of obtaining verifiable parental consent (16 C.F.R. § 312.5(b)(2)).
